Paul Goble (27 September 1933 – 5 January 2017) was a British-American writer and illustrator of children's books, especially Native American stories.
His book The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses won a Caldecott Medal in 1979.
[1] In 1977, he moved to the Black Hills in South Dakota and became closely acquainted with Chief Edgar Red Cloud.
[2][3] Goble was greatly influenced by Plains Indian culture[4] and his subsequent children's books reflect this.
Most of his books, retellings of ancient stories, are told from the perspectives of different tribes among the Native Nations.
