In 1820, he removed to Herkimer County, and taught school.
As a Democrat, he was a member of the New York State Assembly (Herkimer Co.) in 1835.
Afterwards he resumed the practice of medicine in Royalton, New York.
In 1848, he joined the Free Soil Party, and in 1855 became a Republican.
He was Supervisor of the Town of Royalton for one term; and a member of the New York State Senate (29th D.) in 1860 and 1861.
