Pau belongs to the reform-oriented wing of her party, actively supporting parliamentary representative democracy.

Controversial boundary changes abolished this constituency and for the 2002 election, she contested Berlin-Marzahn-Hellersdorf, regarded as a safe seat for the PDS.
