Philippe Couvreur

Philippe Couvreur (born 29 November 1951) is a retired Belgian jurist specializing in international law.

He also pursued studies in International and European Law at King's College London, the Complutense University of Madrid, and again at the Université Catholique de Louvain.

[citation needed] Couvreur is fluent in five languages: French, Dutch, English, Spanish, and Italian.

[citation needed][2] He served as the Registrar of the International Court of Justice from February 2000[3] until his retirement in the summer of 2019 and was re-elected twice during his tenure.

He holds various decorations, including Commander by Number of the Orden de Isabel la Católica (Spain) and of the Orden del Mérito Civil (Spain), Officer of the Légion d'Honneur (France), as well as Grand Officer in the Order of Leopold (Belgium).
