Piotr Skuratowicz

A renowned cavalryman, a victim of the Katyn massacre of 1940 murdered by the NKVD in Kharkov[1] in the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Promoted to the rank of General in the spring of 1939, he became the commanding officer of the Dubno Operational Group, formed of various march battalions of cavalry units.

However, after the Soviet invasion of Poland of September 17, his post was taken by Stefan Hanka-Kulesza and the unit was destroyed by the Red Army soon afterwards.

After the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939, Skuratowicz was taken prisoner of war together with thousands of other Polish military and police personnel.

Apart from Skuratowicz, eight others were also murdered in Kharkov, namely: Leon Billewicz, Stanisław Haller, Aleksander Kowalewski, Kazimierz Łukoski, Konstanty Plisowski, Franciszek Sikorski, Leonard Skierski, Alojzy Wir-Konas.
