Podbrdo, Tolmin

Podbrdo (pronounced [pɔdˈbəɾdɔ]; Italian: Piedicolle,[2] German: Untereck[citation needed]) is a settlement in the Municipality of Tolmin in the Littoral region of Slovenia.

The name Podbrdo is a fused prepositional phrase that has lost its case inflection, from pod 'under' + brdo 'hill', thus referring to the local geography.

[4] The settlement was founded in the 16th century by German-speaking settlers from Tyrol, but the area was settled earlier.

The most important building in the village is the parish church; it is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and belongs to the Diocese of Koper.

Podbrdo is surrounded by many attractive mountains such as Slatnik (1589 m), Lajnar (1549 m), Bača Peak (Vrh Bače, 1281 m), Črna Prst (1844 m), Kobla (1498 m), and Porezen (1622 m).
