Pol Demeuter

In the 500 cc class he won races in Mettet[3] and Floreffe,[2] the Grand Prix des Frontières in Chimay[4] and the Belgian Championship at Spa-Francorchamps.

Demeuter won ahead of teammate and fellow Belgian, Erik Haps, who raced under the pseudonym, "Noir".

[5] Demeuter had lost the lead during the race due to a technical problem, but took it back in the final lap after "Noir" fell on an oil patch.

After learning about the death of their rider "Noir", the FN team decided to withdraw Demeuter from the race.

[1][6] One lap later, before he could be reached again by his team, Demeuter lost control of his bike on oil[6] (reported to be melted tarmac by other sources)[1][5] and crashed at the final corner.
