When other confectionery brands moved to plastic wrappers in the 1960s and 1970s, Poppets retained their traditional boxes.
[2] The box has a small hatch in one corner that can be torn open to dispense the sweets one at a time, this 'popping out' having given them their original name.
George Payne & Co. began production in the East End of London, before moving to Croydon Road, Beddington in Surrey in the 1930s.
[2] The Leicester factory was sold in 2020 and production of Poppets was relocated to York.
Whilst 120/130 gram sharing sized bags can now be bought, Poppets remain best known for their boxes.
