The Juniata Iron Works, Barree Forge and Furnace, and Pulpit Rocks are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 1,917 people, 768 households, and 565 families residing in the township.

There were 768 households, out of which 30.6% had children who were under the age of eighteen living with them; 60.0% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.4% were non-families.

23.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.1% had someone living alone who was sixty-five years of age or older.

For every one hundred females who were aged eighteen or older, there were 91.7 males.
