She is a two-time U.S. national medalist (silver in 1981, bronze in 1978) and finished within the top ten at two World Championships.

Due to the distance from her hometown of Lexington, Massachusetts, during the school year she only got occasional lessons and otherwise had to practice on her own at a local rink.
Hill's most decorated former student is Johnny Weir, whom she coached to the gold medal at the 2001 World Junior Championships and three U.S. national titles (2004, 2005, and 2006).
