It is the biggest sports complex in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The sports complex is owned by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The current site was selected in 1975 after previously using several grounds at the different locations in Peshawar.

The first grandstand at the Qayyum Stadium was a cricket club, which was built in 1975.

In march 2016, the provincial government of PTI launches the renovation and beautification of Qayyum Stadium.
