Qingyan (Yan) Chen (陳清焰) is the Director of the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR)[1] and Chair Professor [2] at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, active in the field of building science.
[5] Prior to joining Purdue University, where he is currently a professor of mechanical engineering, he completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the ETH Zurich; worked as a project manager for the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research; and was on the faculty at Delft University of Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In 2007, the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology honoured him with the Willis J. Whitfield Award "for significant contributions to the field of contamination control through numerous published papers, studies, and reports".
In 2011, Scandinavian Federation of Heating, Ventilating and Sanitary Engineering Associations in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden (SCANVAC) awarded him John Rydberg Gold Medal for “outstanding contribution to the advancement of modelling and measurement of ventilation and air distribution in buildings”.
