Raffaele Ciferri (30 May 1897, Fermo – 12 February 1964, Pavia) was an Italian botanist, agriculturalist and mycologist.
From 1925 to 1932, he was based in the Dominican Republic, where he helped establish an experimental agricultural station in Santiago de los Caballeros for studies of cassava.
In 1934–35 he was stationed in Italian Somaliland, performing organizational work involving agrarian services.
[3] The ambrosia fungus genus Raffaelea is named in his honor,[4] as are multiple species with the epithet ciferrii.
[5] Together with mycologist Ruggero Tomaselli, Ciferri published 215 alternative names for the fungal component (the mycobiont) of lichens; most of these ended in the suffix -myces.
