He is a former M-1 Global middleweight champion and fought in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
In 2005 he joined the MMA club Gorets under Musail Alaudinov and Shamil Alibatyrov.
He won the Dagestan national pankration championship 2009 and the world combat sambo title.
