He represented the Mehnaun[5] constituency ( Formerly Mujehna) in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, and was elected to the state assembly three times.

As a member of the Indian National Congress, Singh held several key positions within the party.

He actively participated in rallies and was known for his close association with senior leaders from the Gandhi family, Rajesh Pilot, N. D. Tiwari and Kunwar Anand Singh (Mankapur).

After a prolonged illness and treatment at Medanta Hospital in Lucknow, Rampal Singh passed away on 23 March 2024 at his Gonda Residence.
