Rhys H. Williams (sociologist)

Rhys H. Williams (born 1955) Until his retirement in 2023, Williams was Professor of Sociology and Chair of the Department of Sociology at Loyola University Chicago.

He was also director of the McNamara Center for the Social Study of Religion.

He received his undergraduate degree, in Sociology and Political Science from the University of New Mexico in 1979 and his master's (1985) and doctoral (1988) degrees in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

In 1996-1999 he was co-editor, with Joel Best, of the journal Social Problems.

His research interests span the fields of sociology, religious studies and political science.
