Riceland Township was organized in 1858, and named for a former lake noted for its wild rice.
[3] According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.0 square miles (93.4 km2), all land.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 489 people, 183 households, and 148 families residing in the township.
There were 183 households, out of which 35.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.5% were married couples living together, 4.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.6% were non-families.
15.8% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
