Sir Richard James Coles CBE (17 November 1862 – 22 October 1935) was a British civil servant.
Coles was named an Officer and Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1918 and 1919, respectively.
[2] Coles entered the Civil Service in 1878 as a boy clerk with the General Post Office.
From 1918 to 1920, he was acting Director-General of Finance, and, in 1920, he was made permanent Financial Assistant Secretary.
[4][1][5] He died at his home in Kingston-upon-Thames on 22 October 1935 and was buried at Surbiton Cemetery.
