Richard R. Gaillardetz (1958–2023) was an American theologian specializing in questions relating to ecclesiology and the structures of authority in the Catholic Church.
From 2001 to 2011, Gaillardetz held the Thomas and Margaret Murray and James J. Bacik Chair in Catholic Studies at the University of Toledo.
He served on the board of directors of the Catholic Theological Society of America and on the United Methodist-Catholic Dialogue.

[2] He is the author or editor of thirteen books, the last of which was An Unfinished Council: Vatican II, Pope Francis, and the Renewal of Catholicism in 2015.
