Richard Hall (archaeologist)

Richard Andrew Hall (17 May 1949 – 13 September 2011) was an English archaeologist who specialized in Viking activity in the British Isles.

Hall received his first degree in archaeology from Queen's University Belfast in 1971 with a dissertation on Viking activity in Ireland.

Hall conducted pioneering research on Scandinavian York and helped create the Jorvik Viking Centre.

[2] Hall was the author of numerous publications on Vikings, on which he was considered one the world's foremost experts.

[4] In his writings, he maintained that Vikings were less violent and more advanced than previously believed, and that they have played a significant role in the history of the British Isles.
