Sawayama made her debut in April 2013 with the single "Sleeping in Waking".

Her first extended play, Rina, was released in October 2017, generating the singles "Tunnel Vision", "Cyber Stockholm Syndrome", "Alterlife" and "Ordinary Superstar".

Her second studio album, Hold the Girl, was released in September 2022, with the singles "This Hell", "Catch Me in the Air", its title track, "Phantom", "Hurricanes" and "Frankenstein".

The album was recorded during the Dynasty Tour show in London at the Roundhouse.
