Robert John Pinsent (judge)

Sir Robert John Pinsent (July 27, 1834 – April 28, 1893) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Newfoundland.

He was born in Port de Grave, the son of Robert John Pinsent and Louisa Broom.

Pinsent was educated in Harbour Grace, then studied law with Bryan Robinson and was admitted to the bar in 1856.

Originally elected without any party affiliations, he was defeated when he ran for reelection in 1869 as a supporter of union with Canada.

Pinsent was married twice: to Anna Brown Cooke around 1856 and to Emily Hettie Sabine Homfray around 1873.
