Robert L. Clarke

Robert L. Clarke (born June 29, 1942) was Comptroller of the Currency of the United States[1] from 1985-1992.

[2] Clarke, a Texas banking attorney at Bracewell LLP, was nominated by President Ronald Reagan and confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

Under Clarke, the agency strengthened its managerial and supervisory capabilities to deal with changes and stresses in the national banking system.

Clarke led the effort to expand the national bank powers to better meet the competition from non-bank providers of financial services.
