[5] Robert Macoy and Rob Morris were close friends and their families often visited each other in Kentucky and New York.

Before 1860 Macoy became interested in Morris' efforts to promote an organization for female relatives of Masons.

Morris had formed "Constellations" - also the "Family System" in conferring degrees, but these proved too elaborate and cumbersome.

In 1883 Macoy founded at New York the Order of the Amaranth in connection with the Eastern Star.
