Robert Thomson (British Army officer)

Major General Robert John Thomson, CBE, DSO (born 1 January 1967) is a former senior British Army officer.

He served as Commander of British Forces Cyprus between September 2019 and August 2022.

[1][2] Thomson was commissioned into the Royal Green Jackets on 2 September 1988.

[3] He served as commanding officer of 2nd Battalion The Rifles and was deployed in that role on Operation Herrick 10 in Afghanistan from May 2009 to October 2009.

[7] Thomson was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2005 New Year Honours,[8] and advanced to Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services in Afghanistan on 3 July 2015.
