Roger Carter (academic)

[1] During his time in private practice, he also became a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Saskatchewan.

[4] In the 1962 Canadian federal election, Carter ran as a New Democrat in the riding of Prince Albert, finishing second to Prime Minister John Diefenbaker.

[1][4] He was appointed Dean of the College of Law in 1968, a position he held until 1974, when he resigned to focus on the establishment of the Legal Aid program of Saskatchewan.

[3][5] In 1975, Carter founded the Native Law Centre at the University of Saskatchewan, with the objective of increasing access to legal education by aboriginal persons.

[5] For his initiatives in relation to aboriginal access to legal education, Carter was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2001.
