Roman Chwalek (24 July 1898 – 27 November 1974) was a trade unionist and socialist politician who held various cabinet posts in East Germany.
[1] He was arrested on 1 September 1933 and imprisoned for three years and after serving his sentence in the Luckau penitentiary, he was transferred to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp.
He was appointed minister for labor in November 1950 succeeding Luitpold Steidle in the post.
[5] Chwalek's term ended in April 1953 when Friedrich Macher was named as the minister for labor.
[6] Chwalek served as minister for railways until November 1954 and was succeeded by Erwin Kramer in the post.
