Ronald Hampel

Sir Ronald Claus Hampel (born 31 May 1932)[1] is an English former businessman, who was chief executive and chairman of ICI in the 1990s.

He was born in Shropshire, the son of Karl Hampel (29 May 1898 -10 February 1960) and Rutgard Hauck (8 August 1904 - 21 April 1975).

He attended Corpus Christi College, Cambridge where he obtained an MA in Modern Languages and Law.

In late November 1992 it had been decided to call the new company Zeneca, under Sir David Barnes (1936-2020).

The main products of Zeneca included Hibitane (Chlorhexidine), the world's best-selling hospital antiseptic since the 1950s.

He was chairman until Thursday 22 April 1999, at the annual shareholders meeting, with Friends of the Earth in uninvited attendance.
