Roy Matz Goodman (March 5, 1930 – June 3, 2014) was an American politician and businessman who served as a member of the New York State Senate from 1969 to 2002.
Prior to serving in the Senate, Goodman was the New York City Director of Finance under Mayor John Lindsay in 1966 and 1967.
In 1992, Bill Green was ousted by Carolyn Maloney, who served in congress until her defeat in the Democratic Primary in 2022 to Jerrold Nadler.
Ravitz remained in office until 2002, when he lost the special election to succeed Goodman in the Senate to Liz Krueger.
Republicans had difficulty finding anyone to run against incumbent Democrat Mario Cuomo, who was considered unbeatable.
[6][7] Goodman picked Rinfret because he was pro-choice on abortion and, as a millionaire economist, could spend some of his own money on the campaign.
On election Day, Rinfret received about 21 percent of the vote and barely outpolled Herbert London, the candidate of the Conservative Party of New York State.
[9] Goodman died from respiratory failure at a hospital in Danbury, Connecticut, on June 3, 2014, aged 84.
He had fallen ill while traveling home to New York from Harvard Business School in Massachusetts, where he had attended graduation ceremonies for one of his grandchildren.
