He attended the National War College in 1956 and 1957, and then was assigned to Allied Air Force Central Europe of NATO as chief of the Reconnaissance Division.
[3] Berg returned to the United States in August 1960, and became chief of staff of the Ballistic Missile Division located at Los Angeles Air Force Station in El Segundo, California.
He then became vice commander of the Satellite System Division, and deputy director of the Air Force Special Projects Office.
[3] Other positions he held include deputy director of the Manned Orbiting Laboratory and assignments with the United States Secretary of the Air Force and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
[2] Awards Berg received include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with eight oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the British Distinguished Flying Cross and bar, the French Croix de Guerre with palm device, the Belgian Croix de guerre with palm device and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
