[1] He graduated from Saint Joseph French High School and later from Ankara University Faculty of Political Science.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1986 and completed his studies at the College of Europe in Bruges between 1988 and 1989.
[2] From 2000 to 2003, he served as the foreign affairs advisor to Ahmet Necdet Sezer, President of Turkey.
[3] Between 2003 and 2007, he held the position of minister-counselor at the Turkish Embassy in Paris.
He is the brother of fellow ambassador Hasan Mehmet Özyıldız.
