After the 2002–03 season, where an eleventh place would have meant survival, the club was forced to withdraw from the league for financial reasons.
[2] The SCN stepped down from tier-four straight to tier seven, entering the Bezirksliga Kassel for the 2003–04 seasons.
It struggled to find its footing in lower amateur football, suffering another relegation but soon recovered to climb the ranks again.
