Sabah al-Alwani

Sabah Ahmed Saleh al-Alwani (Arabic: صباح أحمد صالح العلواني) is a Yemeni judge, who, in 2022 was the first woman to be appointed as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council of Yemen.

[1][2][3] This is the highest judicial authority in the country and comprises a president and eight council members.

[4] Al-Alwani's career has included: her election as Head of the Executive Office of the Southern Judges Club in 2013 and appointment by the President of Yemen to the National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights.

[1] Based in the Aden region, al-Alwani has worked in pubic prosecution since 1991, through a range of promotions to Senior Advocate General.

[6] She also led an investigative committee into the reported torture of detainees at Beir Ahmed Prison from 2018-2019.
