[3] The area of Saga was settled in the Jōmon and Yayoi periods and was part of ancient Hizen Province.

The domain due to its proximity to Nagasaki, it actively introduced Western science and technology, and in the Bakumatsu period was one of the main centers involved in the Meiji restoration.

Saga has a mayor-council form of government with a directly elected mayor and a unicameral city council of 36 members.

In terms of national politics, the city is part of the Saga 1st district of the lower house of the Diet of Japan.

In the areas surrounding the city, the agricultural industry focuses on planting grains that make use of water.

Originally one of the largest rice-producing areas, a large farmland has been converted it into a vegetable field in response to changes in the environment surrounding agriculture.

Currently, three large suburban commercial facilities with a sales floor area of 50,000 m2 are in competition with each other, and there is an unbalanced demand for supply.
