Eventually, Samuel studied Classical violin with violinist and composer Harold Geller and Richard Ferrin, principal violist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

In 2015, Samuel founded the Chicago Gypsy Project (a trio with Dave Miller on guitar and Charlie Kirchen on bass), which produced the most recent independent release, "We Swing.
