Samuel A. Merritt

Samuel Augustus Merritt (August 15, 1827 – September 8, 1910) was an American politician who served as a California legislator, as a Congressional Delegate from Idaho Territory, and as a judge in Utah Territory.

He served as a member of the California State Assembly in 1851 and 1852, representing Mariposa and Tulare counties.

He moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1873 and engaged in mining operations and the practice of law.

He was city attorney 1888–1890, and served as a member of the Democratic National Committee in 1892.
