Sandra Jackson-Opoku

Sandra Jackson-Opoku (born 1953)[1] is an American poet, novelist, screenwriter, and journalist, whose writing often focuses on culture and travel in the African diaspora.

[1] Her first novel, The River Where Blood Is Born, inspired by a trip to Africa in 1975,[6] was published in 1997, winning the American Library Association Black Caucus Award for Best Fiction.

The review in the Chicago Sun-Times said: "Besides its sheer literary beauty, Jackson-Opoku’s story-weaving will give readers a new spiritual dimension from which to consider the meaning of life.

"[7] She is also the author of a 2001 novel, about which Publishers Weekly wrote: "Jackson-Opoku's ability to craft memorable characters with distinct temperaments and sensibilities marks her as a writer to be reckoned with.

"[13] In a review for The New York Times, Claudia Rankine wrote that in Revise the Psalm "we get a keen sense of the poet and her fierce commitment to community engagement".
