[5] It is one of the five intercity large railway stations serving the Kolkata metropolitan region, India.
[5] SER serves local trains to Amta, Mecheda, Panskura, Haldia, Kharagpur and Medinipur and mail/express trains to Central, West and South India from here.
Whilst the station had existed for many years on the line to Howrah railway station, work for its upgrade to a railway terminal started in 2015.
