[4] Completed in 2016, the intent to build the temple was announced concurrently with the Brigham City Utah, Concepción Chile, Fort Lauderdale Florida and Fortaleza Brazil temples; together, at the time, they brought the total number of temples worldwide to 151.

Michael T. Ringwood and Koichi Aoyagi of the Seventy were also present.

[3] A public open house was held from July 8–23, 2016, excluding Sundays.

[5] The temple was formally dedicated by Russell M. Nelson on August 21, 2016.

[6] In 2020, the Sapporo Japan Temple was closed temporarily during the year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
