[1] The New English School Trust (NEST) founded SVIT with the vision of establishing a self-financed degree engineering college.
The college was named in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a revered leader from the region.
Prof. Shantibhai Amin, a philanthropic administrator, was appointed as the chairman of the Board of Management, which included prominent technocrats, educationists, industrialists, social workers, and business leaders from Vasad.
In 1997, SVIT sought approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and affiliation from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad.
