"Save Me" was the theme song for WWE's No Mercy 2005 pay-per-view event, and is their second most commercially successful single to date, reaching number one on the U.S. mainstream rock chart (and remaining there for 12 weeks).
The foundations of the song date back to the mid-1990s, when the band's singer Brent Smith was just 16 years old and beginning to make demo tracks.

According to Smith, "when the first single, 'Save Me', hit the radio, I still hadn't written lyrics for four of the songs nor had sung four others on the album.
