Secularism in Kosovo

Since the declaration of independence in 2008, Kosovo has followed a clear course towards the separation of religion from the state, promoting freedom of belief and human rights.

During this time, the foundations were laid for building democratic institutions and respecting human rights, including religious freedom.

Article 38 guarantees freedom of belief, conscience and religion, giving citizens the right to practice their faith freely and without interference.

Secularism in Kosovo means that the government does not interfere in religious matters and maintains a neutral approach to all faiths.

However, the clear separation of religion and state has also encountered challenges and contestations, especially in contexts where religious beliefs clash with secular practices and laws.
