Sentier

Because of its proximity to the former Paris stock exchange building (the Palais Brongniart), the AFP and many financial companies, several operators have deployed high-speed fibre optic networks in the area.

During the Dot Com Boom in the late 1990s, approximately fifty startups settled in the Sentier area, including offices for Yahoo!, Nomad, Lastminute.fr, Net2one, BuyCentral, Webcible and MandrakeSoft.

The area was attractive to startups because of its proximity to fibre optic routes and also because there were many empty spaces left over when some of the garment factories moved out.

It was also traditionally the area housing the headquarters of the many newspapers, as Balzac mentions in the Rabouilleuse where Philippe Bridau files his copy before going to dinner at the Rocher de Cancale.

Sentier keeps the quiet loneliness of the anonymous poet in Juan Goyitsolo's "Paisajes Después de La Batalla".
