The Shanghai University of Technology (SUT; 上海工业大学; lit.

The university merged with then Shanghai University of Science and Technology, then Shanghai University, and then Shanghai Science and Technology Senior Vocational School to establish the current form of Shanghai University in May 1994.

The institute was renamed as Shanghai University of Technology in 1979.

Professor Qian Weichang (钱伟长) was the president of the university since 1982 and eventually led to the consolidated Shanghai University in 1994.
