Shannon Sweeney

Shannon Sweeney (born 1998) is an Irish amateur boxer.

She won the gold medal in the light flyweight division at the 2024 European Amateur Boxing Championships, having previously claimed bronze in the minimumweight category at the 2022 edition.

Sweeney won her first Irish National Elite Senior title in 2018, fighting at minimumweight and defeating Carol Coughlan by 3:2 split decision in the final.

[1] Having made her world championship debut earlier in the year,[2] she claimed a bronze medal at the 2022 European Amateur Boxing Championships in Budva, Moldova, losing in the semi-finals to eventual gold medalist, Sevda Asenova from Bulgaria.

[3] Sweeney moved up a weight division to light flyweight for the 2024 European Amateur Boxing Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, and took the gold medal, winning the final by 4:1 split decision against Bulgaria's Zlatislava Chukanova.
