Sherman Kopald Stein (born August 11, 1926) is an American mathematician and an author of mathematics textbooks.
His writings have won the Lester R. Ford Award and the Beckenbach Book Prize.
His dissertation, The Homology of the Two-Fold Symmetric Product, was supervised by Paul Althaus Smith.
[17] Stein is also known as one of the independent discoverers of Fáry's theorem,[18] and for his contributions to equidissection, the partition of polygons into triangles of equal area.
[19] Stein won the Lester R. Ford Award of the Mathematical Association of America in 1975 for a paper on the connections between group theory and tessellations.
