[1] In 1962, she won the barrel racing world championship at the National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in Fort Worth, Texas.
[3] Combs and her ProRodeo Hall of Fame sister, Florence Youree,[4] grew up on their father's ranch near Addington, Oklahoma.
When the first NFR was held in Dallas, Texas, Combs was one of the flag carriers in the opening ceremony.
[3] In 1962, Combs Johnson secured the World Champion honors for barrel racing, with the help of her horse, "Red."
[7] Combs Johnson's horse Star Plaudit, nicknamed "Red", was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2017.
[8][9] Combs Johnson died from complications of COPD on August 2, 2023, two weeks before her 85th birthday.
