Sheryl Sorby

Sheryl Ann Sorby is an American mechanical engineer who is a professor of engineering education at the University of Cincinnati[1] and professor emerita of mechanical engineering-engineering mechanics at Michigan Technological University.

[2] She was elected a fellow of the American Society for Engineering Education in 2009 and served as its president from 2020 to 2021.

[2][3] She received the 2011 Sharon Keillor Award for Women in Engineering Education,[2] 2021 Duncan Fraser Global Award for Excellence in Engineering Education,[4] and the 2021 Claire L. Felbinger Award.

[2] Her 1991 dissertation was titled, An Experimental and Numerical Study of Stress Wave Interactions with Sub-Surface Cracks.

[6] John B. Ligon was Sorby's doctoral advisor.
