He was also a member of the senior South Korean national team that won the gold medal at the 1969 FIBA Asian Cup.

He also played with South Korea at the 1970 FIBA World Championship, where he finished as that tournament's top scorer.

Shin ended up being the top scorer at the tournament, scoring an average of 32.6 points per game.
