Sir Herbert Mackworth, 1st Baronet FRS (1 January 1737 – 25 October 1791) was a British lawyer, landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons for 24 years from 1766 to 1790.
He then studied law at Lincoln's Inn, was called to the bar in 1759 and practised as a barrister.
In 1777 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society as a "gentleman well versed in Natural history and every branch of Mathematical and Philosophical learning"[3][4] Mackworth died at his seat at Gnoll Castle in 1791.
"His death was occasioned by a thorn breaking in his finger, which brought on a violent inflammation and swelling in the hand and arm, no medical assistance being called in till a month after the accident happened".
